Tucked away on the northwest end of St. George, the Gun Barrel Steak House provides a pleasurable dining experience. Signature steaks, as well as a variety of wild game specialties are grilled over mesquite wood to create a flavorful and characteristic taste, then, served amidst a rustic, cabin like environment. Well prepared food, professional service, and some unique menu items are all part of dinner at this high quality restaurant. It is a favorite spot of locals, and attracts a number of out of town guests, as it celebrates the area with its western dishes and décor.
The menu at the Gun Barrel includes a delectable Velvet Elk. Tenderloin medallions are pan seared with mushrooms, leeks, and a sun dried tomato sauce, and topped with a red wine demi glaze. Another popular menu item, the Mixed Game Grill, allows guests to sample several different types of delectable meats. The thick mesquite grilled chop, the lightly seasoned, and slow roasted buffalo prime rib, and the smoked Venison Bratwurst are incorporated on the same platter. All dinners are served with chef selected vegetables, and your choice of garlic mashed potatoes, a baked potato, a baked sweet potato with honey butter, or wild rice.
The dining room is tastefully decorated with a mountaineer theme and some mounted animal trophies. Plus, certain accents feature the history of the area, including the wood trim and table tops that are all made of trestle wood from the railroad that went around the Great Salt Lake. Overall, the atmosphere at the Gun Barrel is fairly relaxed. However, “dressy casual” may be used to describe appropriate dinner attire for this establishment. Prices start at approximately $25 per plate, and reservations are not required, but suggested.
